Safety is our game together. Fungoo's Guide to New Safety Standards (GPSR)

Dear Customers & Parents,

At Fungoo, we’ve been guided for years by one overarching principle: providing you and your children with safe, creative, and durable wooden playgrounds for home use. Our passion for creating joyful play spaces is inextricably linked to our responsibility for every element that ends up in your garden.

That’s why we actively monitor and implement the latest European standards. We’d like to inform you about a significant step forward in consumer product safety in the European Union – a new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).

We want to clearly explain what GPSR is, what changes it introduces, and how we, as a manufacturer, implement these guidelines in our products to better protect your interests.

  1. What is GPSR and why is it important?

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is a new, EU-wide law that replaces the existing General Product Safety Directive. Its main goal is to raise the level of consumer protection, harmonize regulations across the EU, and adapt them to the era of online commerce.

For you, as customers, this means primarily:

  • Greater confidence that the products you buy are safe.
  • Full product traceability – from the factory to your garden.
  • Easier access to safety and manufacturer information.

Important note: Fungoo playgrounds, as products intended for children, are subject to strict quality control. Toys Directive (2009/48/EC) and standards (e.g. EN 71), which confirm CE marking GPSR act as an additional, overarching “safety net,” complementing and reinforcing these requirements, especially in the areas of communication and product tracking.

  1. GPSR implementation in Fungoo – What does it change in our products?

In line with our commitment to transparency, we have made a number of improvements to our playground marking to fully comply with GPSR requirements. Here are the key improvements you will notice:

A. Full Manufacturer Traceability (New Markings)

GPSR requirement: The consumer must be able to contact the manufacturer quickly and easily. Implementation in Fungoo: You will now find even more detailed information on our products (or, if this is not possible, on their packaging):

  • Full name and postal address: Our registered company name and registered office address.
  • Electronic point of contact: An email address or website that will ensure a quick contact path in case of any questions.

Benefit for the Customer: You have instant access to our contact information. For service or safety questions, contacting us is easier than ever.

B. Precise Product Identification (Better Control)

GPSR requirement: Each product must be easily identifiable (e.g. in case of batch recall). Implementation in Fungoo: We introduce and improve systems for marking production batches, serial numbers or product types.

  • There will be a clear marking on the components and/or in the manuals identifying the specific product and its production series.

Benefit for the Customer: Should we (or you) identify a service need for a specific batch, we can precisely identify which products are affected. This ensures a quick and targeted response.

C. Clear Instructions and Warnings (DIY Safety First)

GPSR requirement: Safety instructions and warnings must be clear, legible and easily understandable. Implementation in Fungoo: As a manufacturer of DIY playgrounds, we have always placed great emphasis on the quality of instructions.

  • We continue to audit and improve our assembly manuals to ensure that they comply not only with the EN 71 standard, but also with the general GPSR guidelines.
  • All key warnings (e.g. “For home use only”, “Adult supervision required”, “Check fasteners regularly”) are and will be clearly communicated in the manuals and, where required, on the product.

Benefit for the Customer: Playground safety begins with proper assembling and maintenance. Our detailed instructions guide you step by step, minimizing the risk of error and ensuring the final structure is stable and safe.

D. Online Sales Safety Information

GPSR requirement: When selling online, the customer must have access to the same safety and product identification information as in a brick-and-mortar store. Implementation in Fungoo: We guarantee that on the product pages of our playgrounds (both in our store and at our trading partners) you will find:

  • Clear product photos.
  • Identification details of the manufacturer (Apila) with contact details.
  • All key warnings and safety information (e.g. weight limit, age of users).

Benefit for the Customer: You can make a fully informed purchasing decision, having complete information about the product’s safety before adding it to your cart.

  1. Where exactly can I find new information? (A visual guide to Fungoo branding)

We understand that purchasing a DIY playground is a process that begins long time before assembly. Therefore, in accordance with GPSR requirements, we ensure full traceability and access to information at every stage – from delivery to the final, assembled product in your garden.

Our identification system is multi-stage to ensure that key data is never lost.

To help you navigate the new markings, we’ve provided examples of labels and identification elements below, along with a brief description of their meaning. This ensures that every step—from delivery to assembling—is completely transparent and understandable.

A. On the Collective Packaging (Label on the Box)

The playground is delivered to you as a kit (e.g. on a pallet/in a box) which includes a set of wood, an assembly box with accessories and a slide.

On the main collective package you will already find our first identification label.

gpsr_box_label_1

The photo shows an example of a label placed on a master kit box. These markings allow an easy identification of the product, its manufacturer, and basic safety parameters. The serial number and SKU ensure full traceability of the production batch.

On this label, in accordance with GPSR requirements, you will find:

  1. Full details of the Manufacturer: Name (Apila Sp. z o.o.), postal address (ul. Jagodowa 92, 62-002 Suchy Las).
  2. Electronic contact point: Our e-mail address (cs@fungoo.eu) and website (www.fungoo.eu).
  3. Product Identifier: Model name (e.g. Treehouse 3) and a unique SKU number (e.g. S-05130-P-K-XG-1) that precisely identifies the set variant (e.g. wood and base color).
  4. Serial number field: Critical for tracking product batches.
  5. Key Warnings: Including “For Home Use Only”, “Intended for Outdoor Use”, Age Range (3-10 years) and Maximum number of users.

B. On the Assembly Box (Accessory Kit Label)

Inside the bulk package, You’ll find a separate box containing all the necessary assembling accessories (screws, anchors, brackets, etc.). This box also has its own dedicated label.

The illustration shows the label found on the assembly hardware box. This label duplicates the manufacturer’s information and also includes a reference to the batch number and the CE conformity marking, confirming compliance with the EN 71 standards.

This label reproduces the most important information, ensuring that even after unpacking the box, You still have access to the information:

  • Manufacturer and Contact Details: Apila Sp. z o.o., address, telephone number, e-mail address and website.
  • Product Identification: Playground image, name (e.g. Fungoo Treehouse 3) and code (e.g. 05130).
  • Serial number field:
  • Standard markings: Confirmation of compliance with EN 71 standards and CE mark.

Additionally, the wood set itself has a separate EAN label indicating the model, and the slide contains identifying information from its manufacturer.

With the implementation of new markings, we also want to simplify access to product information and technical documentation.

maintanance_qr_code

The illustration shows an example of where a QR code might be placed on a assembling box. This code provides quick and convenient access to digital guideline related to a playground.

To facilitate access to information materials and reduce the number of printed documents, we are also introducing a QR code placed on the nameplate and in the assembly manuals.
After scanning the code, the customer is redirected to the Customer Service (CS) section of our website, where the following are available:

Thanks to this solution, we reduce the amount of waste after delivery, supporting the idea of sustainable production and use.

The photo shows the assembly instructions and safety brochure attached to the slide supplied. These documents are an integral part of the kit, containing key warnings, intended use information, and full manufacturer information.

  1. In the Documentation (Assembly Instructions and Safety Rules)

Each kit comes with two key documents. These documents provide the most detailed safety guidelines.

  1. Main Assembly Instructions on the first page of the assembly instructions (cover) we have placed key warnings required by the standards.

    D. On the Assembled Product (Nameplate)

The GPSR regulation requires that information be available throughout the product’s entire lifecycle. In the case of a DIY playground, this means that it must be permanently affixed to the assembled structure.

Therefore, You will find a nameplate in the assembly kit (marked as PLT in the assembly manuals).

    name_plate_gpsr_fungoo

The illustration shows the nameplate that should be mounted on the finished playground. This plate serves as a permanent carrier of identification data – it includes the manufacturer’s name, model, CE mark, and basic operating parameters.

    label_playgound_assmebled_gpsr

Your obligation: The assembly manuals indicate that this plate should be mounted on a finished playground.

    • Benefit for the Customer: This plate contains key information (including model, standards, manufacturer) and is a durable data carrier that will remain on the playground for years.

    E. In the Online Store (Before Purchase)

We assure You that the same key information is available to You before You make a purchase decision. On the product pages of our playgrounds (available from us and our distributors), You will find:

    gpsr_ecommerce_info

The example screenshot shows how safety information and manufacturer details are presented in the online store – so that the customer can access them before purchasing.

    1. Product image (e.g. like FLIPPI_KDI_XG.jpg).
    2. Clear indication of the manufacturer (Fungoo / Apila Sp. z o.o.).
    3. Key warnings and safety information (age, intended use, maximum load).

In the context of new safety standards, it is particularly important to confirm the compliance of our products with applicable European standards.

    gpsr_CE_EN71_fungoo_declaration

Each Fungoo playground set has a CE Declaration of Conformity, confirming that the product meets all requirements of EU regulations, including the Toy Directive 2009/48/EC and relevant standards (EN 71).

The CE declaration confirms that the product has been tested for safety and meets the requirements applicable in the European Union.

We hope this guide has clearly shown how Fungoo is approaching the new European safety standards (GPSR) and how they translate into concrete, visible changes for You. The new markings, full traceability, and improved manuals are not just a legal requirement; they are, above all, the next step in realizing our philosophy of transparency and our commitment to the highest quality.

We believe that safety is a process in which we all actively participate together—we as the manufacturer and You as the guardians. Our motto, “Safety is our game together,” perfectly captures this:

Our role (Fungoo): To provide You with a durable, creative product that is fully compliant with rigorous standards (EN 71 and GPSR), complete with comprehensive documentation.

Your role (Parents): To ensure correct assembly according to the instructions, perform regular maintenance, and provide supervision during carefree play.
